Old Burial Hill, Marblehead.
Between the Paths — Row 16 (continued)
John Tawley (1736)
Thomas Tawley (1737)
Headstone for John Tawley (1736) and Thomas Tawley (1737).
The Tawley stone is a small, weather-worn stone that can easily be missed. The left border features crossbones and Death holding an arrow, or dart of death. The right border features an hourglass and Father Time with his scythe.

The wing symbol is used extensively: the crown has a winged death's head; the hourglass is winged; and even Father Time has wings.

The headstone for two other Tawley children, Richard (1733) and Talbot (1736), is located in another cluster. (See Central Area Cluster 2.)

Behold & see, as you pass by,
As you are now, so once was I;
As I am now, so you must by,
Prepare for Death, and follow me.
Behold & see, as you pass by, As you are now, so once was I, As I am now, so you must by, Prepare for Death, & follow me.
